Sunday Night Television

It's another "Extreme Makeover:Home Edition" and "Desperate Housewives" night.

If I could only work my VCR, I would be able to record "American Dreams".
But I think I'll just wait until the whole season comes out in DVD.
I have yet to see the complete first season.

Anyways, once again, I got a little "misty eyed" tonight with E.M.H.E.
Tonight's show was about a family who has a son/brother with brittle bone disease.
It was another beautiful makeover - and the little boy (forgot his name) was adorable.
What got me "misty eyed" was that they provided the daughter with a scholarship to a Fashion Institute. And this is what I love about this show...not only do they makeover their homes, they do things like pay for scholarships, mortgages, and new cars. And ofcourse Ty is definitely eye candy.

With D.H., The commercials stated that one of the "desperate housewives" was going to leave forever...I knew that it was going to be that nosy neighbor (Martha). They couldn't kill off one of the main characters!! And I didnt think that they would kill off Edie (sp) too. I guess the best thing about this episode is Susan and Mike "hooking up". I just loved it when he showed up at her door and told her he didnt want to lose her...so she could ask him anything....and the kiss...wow!!
Have to wait for two weeks to find out what happens next.

I actually dont mind that they wont show D.H. next week - I'm looking forward to watching "The Five People You Meet In Heaven".

3 Months Until...

It's November 14th 2004
In 3 months I'll be 30 years OLD!!
Yes...in 3 months it will be February 14.
How I dread that day!
The worst part is that it's also Valentines Day.

There's no way someone who's having a birthday can ever feel that its just "their day".
I could be one of the thousands having a birthday on a March 1st, just an ordinary day, and still feel that its "my day".
But when your birthday falls on VALENTINES DAY...you not only share it with other birthday celebrants...you share it with everyone else celebrating (or not celebrating) the holiday.

People getting better flowers.
People getting better gifts.
People eating at better restauants.

If anyone gets me another "Happy Birthday Valentine" card .... its going down in flames.
I dont know if any other people born on this day feel this way.
Maybe people born on Christmas might.
But its not the same.

The holiday really isnt whats bugging me.
Its the fact that I'm turning 30 and haven't accomplish much of what I wanted by the time I got to this age.
I have this list of "Life Goals" I wrote out in 1998 which I hope I would accomplish most of them by the time I reached 30 ... I feel somewhat disappointed..Here are a few things:
  • Learn these Languages: Spanish / Italian / French / Japanese = I cant even speak Tagalog fluently...how am I suppose to master those languages.
  • Learn American Sign Language = See above
  • Watch Summer / Winter Olympics in Host Country = This would have required me to spend several hundreds of dollars ...which I didnt have.
  • Learn to swim = Don't even think of writing a comment about me living on an island.
  • Learn to play a guitar and a cello = I would have to had access to those instruments.
  • Travel around Europe & See all 50 states = "No Tengo Dinero" (still not fluent in Spanish)
  • Read entire works of Shakespeare. = Okay...this is something I could accomplish in 3 months...thanks to the Public Library.

Those are just a few things...other goals were career oriented. I'm supposed to be a staff writer for some hit TV Show. I'm supposed to be driving a VW Cabrio (dont ask...I loved the movie "Cant Buy Me Love"). I want an Emmy / Academy / Grammy. But that goal wasnt necessary for me to accomplish by the time I was 30. I think what I'm happy about is that I accomplish my goal of getting my Masters in TV Production. But am I doing anything Production related?!?! Nope..and that depresses me!!

I'm dreading the next couple of weeks/months. It's just going to go by soo fast!!

I"m going to be 30!!

Where am I from?

I feel somewhat annoyed today! I dont know if its PMS (too early though) or hunger.
Was waiting for the bus (after work) and there was this (Caucasian) guy waiting as well.
He had asked me if I knew what time the bus came and I told him 3:45. There was about 15 more minutes and I was trying to read "The Edge Of Reason" (trying to finish the book before I watch the movie). Well, this guy kept making small conversaton (I wanted to concentrate on the book) and I kept giving one word answers. This guy was smoking too...maybe that's one reason I didnt feel like conversing with him.

He had then asked me "Where are you from"
I answered "I live here"
He asked "Where are you originally from"
Now I started to get annoyed.
I'm sure he asked because I'm Asian.
If I was born here..and told him that "I am originally from here...born here...lived here my whole life" I know he still would have asked question after question about my ethnicity.

Just this morning some guy told me that he was having dinner with a Chinese woman who didnt speak any English...and then asked me "What are you"...I knew he was asking my Ethnicity...and I told him I was Filipino. He made a friendly comment and said something like I couldnt help him with the Chinese language.

I'm usually okay with people asking me these questions and not bothered at all. But sometimes I feel because I'm Asian, some people feel that I'm supposed to be "from somewhere". I'm asked if I'm Cambodian / Vietnamese / Chinese / etc. When I tell people that "I'm from Guam" ... they ask me if I'm "Guamanian" ... I reply "Yes, but I'm not Chamorro" (ethnicity) .

I know I shouldn't bitch about people asking me that question. I guess its just a natural thing. I mean if I met someone with some kind of accent, I'd ask the same thing. But its strange...the times when people ask me where I'm from...and I chose to say Guam...they say something about me not having an "accent"...thus they have no idea that its a U.S. Territory/English speaking.

Suppose if I tell people I'm from Guam, but had some kind of European accent, and my features are definitely Asian...can I just screw with peoples minds and tell them that Im definitely NOT Asian. What would they say then??

Okay...maybe it is early PMS...questions like that shouldn't annoy me. I was watching some kind of documentary where the Asian writer/director was appoached by some "white" folks and they yelled at her "go back to where you're from"...and she thought to herself..."to Michigan" cuz thats where she WAS from.

I apologize. If you approach me and ask me where I'm from, I'll most likely say Guam. If you really meant what's my ethnicity, its Filipino. I dont know how to answer that question anymore because I dont know what answer you're looking for.

MTA Gripes

I hate waiting for the bus at 6:30 in the morning
I hate it when the bus runs 10 minutes late, or 5 minutes early.
I hate it when the only empty seat is close to someone with Body Odor.
I hate having to listen to mutlitple conversations of people on their cell phones.
I hate waiting for the 3:45pm bus to go home...I get out of work at 3:15pm.
I hate flagging down the Sunday bus at 7:10pm...he ALWAYS seems to miss my stop.
I hate waiting for the bus when it's raining.
I hate waiting for the bus when it's freezing.
I hate waiting for the bus when it's hot.
I hate that "short" bus driver who keeps calling me "kid".
I hate bus drivers who talk on their cell phones.
I hate paying $52 a month for a bus pass only to go through all those things.

Alfie

I've just watched Alfie.
Cute movie
Great music.
Loved the photographs / End Credits
Roz Rating: " B+ "

In the beginning, Alfie mentions the most important
thing about women: "FBB"
** not the exact wording / or is it? **
1) Face
2) Breasts
3) Bump (ass)

I knew it.
It's all about breast size!

I just wish I was taller!

Sunday Reflections

I'm an awful person when it comes to going to church.
It's been such a long time since I've gone to Sunday mass.
I used to go on Saturday...after work.
Now that I work 11am to 7pm on weekends, it's impossible.

Sure...I could wake up early on Sunday...but the weekend is the only
time I could "sleep in" and wake up at 8am instead.

I keep wondering if I'll have a bad day or good day.
I would think to myself that since I didnt go to mass,
I'd miss the bus, or someone would just be mean to me,
or I'd forget about unplugging the iron and my apartment
would burn down, and I'd kick myself for not getting
renters insurance.

But I'd say a little prayer to myself asking God to
forgive me.

Forgive me for missing mass.
Forgive me for working on Sunday.
Forgive me for swearing at cars that try to run over us pedestrians
and hoping they get into a fender bender.

And the hours pass, and work is done.
And I could come back home.
Relax. Eat dinner. Watch TV.
Talk to friends over the phone.

Say another prayer...and it is night.
I reflect on the day.
It has been wonderful.

Best Jack & Kate moment: Kate asks Jack if he's checking her out

Best revelation in Episode 7: How Charlie became addicted to his "drug"
Best Jake & Kate moment: Kate hugs Jack after he escapes from the cave

Until next week..

Movie Review: Napoleon Dynamite

After watching "Wrong Turn At Lungfish" on Wednesday, I decided
that I needed to see a show/play/musical/concert at least once a month.
I plan on watching a movie at lease twice a month. Since I get to watch
screenings at Paramount, I should be able to accomplish that.

Tonight was a screening of "Napoleon Dynamite."
I thought that it was alright...there were some funny moments.
But I felt that the movie was moving in a somewhat slow pace.
For something that ran for an hour and a half...I felt I was in the
theatre FOREVER...
I thougth the funniest scene was the election "skit".

Overall...my grade would be... " B - "

Happy Birthday ... Dad

Today would have been my dads 66th birthday.
He died five years ago.
I remember that the last time I taked to him was fathers day of that year.
I dont even remember what we talked about.
"Happy Fathers Day Dad"...I'm sure I said that.

I remember my dad building a swing for us.
I remember my dad building my study desk.
I remember my dad bringing home a puppy that I named "Brownie".
I remember my dad cooking Kare Kare.
I remember my dad telling me I need to learn to cook (for my husband).
I remember my dad saying "dont but your fingers in your mouth because its dirty"
I remember my dad having a RED truck / then a WHITE truck from work / then a BLUE one my mom bought for him.

I remember my dad asking me to type out his resume.
I recall that he was in some kind of "production company" with my uncle.
Maybe I got this need for wanting to be in TV/FILM from my dad.

He liked performing too.
There was this party where he dressed up as Elvis and lip synched "All Shook Up".
He alwayed liked singing "My Way" with the Karaoke player.

I remember hugging him before I left Guam to move to California.
He didnt come to the airport, so we just said our "goodbyes" at home.
I dont remember the exact words he said to me.
Something about "be happy, do a good job".

I miss you dad. I'm somewhat happy. I think I'm doing a good job.
I wish I could cook as good as you.

Happy Birthday.

Wrong Turn At Lungfish

Just came home from watching the play "Wrong Turn At Lungfish".
It was an enjoyable night!

Garry Marshall and Lowell Ganz are wonderful playwrights.
Hector Elizondo was absolutely fabulous!
And Jason Gedrick...wow!

The "F*c*k you and the horse you rode in on" scene was definitely
one of my favorites in the play. You would have had to watched it
to know what I meant.

I definitely would like to see a play/musical/concert at least once a month.
Up next on November 12th ::: "Caroline or Change".

Election

I didnt vote today.

I was somewhat too busy (too lazy) to find the
time to register to vote. I probably watched bits and
pieces of the debates. I just didnt feel enthusiastic about
either candidates.

This was supposed to be the first time I would have
voted for President. I just couldnt vote for someone who
I wasnt completely passionate about. I dont even know
if I consider myself a republican or democrat.
